General Skincare FAQs

Frequently asked question

Can you recommend which product is best for me?

Please use our online chat to speak to one of our experience skincare consultants to guide you through recommendations. They will ask you questions regarding your skin and concerns and will tailor a skincare routine specific to your skin type and needs.

Is FW Beauty products non comedogenic?

Non-comedogenic indicates that a product has been formulated to avoid causing clogged pores.  We try to provide a comedogenic rating for all our products under the additional info section of each item.

Can FW products be used by pregnant women?

Yes they can, as our products are natural and organic. However we always advice customers to consult their GP as every pregnancy is different.

Oil first of after?

For best results use our oil 5 minutes before applying a moisturiser and then a sunscreen over it. It will help to seal in the moisturiser.

What is the difference between hydration Vs Nourishment?

Essentially, nourishing means you get more than just hydration: you get nutrients, and your oil levels are being replenished. It will fell richer. Especially great for dry skin. Moisturising generally means only your hydration levels are being addressed.

Freckles

Often in areas that get sun exposure. In most cases, freckles are harmless. They form as a result of overproduction of melanin, which is responsible for skin and hair colour (pigmentation). Overall, freckles come from ultraviolet radiation stimulation. Sunscreen won’t get rid of existing freckles, but it helps prevent new ones. Lasers are able to remove the freckles completely usually after one to two sessions.

My skin has gone really dry. Flaky after using your products.

Skin stripping happens when, through the skincare products you’re using and your beauty regime, you strip your skin if it’s precious natural oils. If you use the wrong product, or too much of it, you could be stripping away all the natural oils which are protecting your skin and keeping it healthy. Start to give back those natural oils to your skin by using pure skin quench hyaluronic acid and rosehip which can be found in our elixirs. You are most likely using too much of the product. For saffron gold you need ½ drop and for all other elixirs you need 1 to 2 drops for the entire face. As all of these are potent and have not been diluted. Start but cutting back the amount and this should restore the balance.

I have white small spots.

Milia are small white bumps that appear on the skin. They’re usually grouped together on the nose, cheeks and chin. Though they may appear elsewhere. They develop when skin flakes become trapped under the surface of the skin, or when keratin builds up and gets strapped. They can also happen if you are applying too much product in that area for it to get trapped. Milia almost always resolve on their own without treatment. However, there are a few things you can do to help speed up the healing process and prevent more milia from forming.

Don’t pick them

Cleanse the area with complexion bar

Use a toner such as clear skin to deep clean the pores.

Steam your face

Exfoliate with saffron mask

If things don’t improve then see a dermatologist.

I have been using the saffron gold and I have not seen any results.

To see dark spots disappear, you need to wait two to three months and results depends on the individuals as not everyone’s skin structure is the same. Skin brightening regimes absolutely won’t work if steps are skipped such as daily sun protection and adjusting other factors which come to play. (Lifestyle, sleeping patterns, diet and other skincare and skin issues such as breakouts. This is one of the most common mistakes. Pigment also almost always recurs. Saffron is rich in manganese, which regulates blood sugar and in turn gives you glowing skin. Saffron is an excellent natural ingredient for reducing pigmentation, brown spots and other skin blemishes amongst other benefits saffron gold provides. If you have been trying it for min Three months and still have not seen any difference then unfortunately this product was not suited for your skin.

How quickly can I expect to see results?

It depends on how your skin responds to the products and it varies from person to person. One of the most important things you can do for your skin is take the time to find the right products for your skin type. Certain skin conditions responds to products more efficiently than others. It takes time for your skin to turn over. Skincare can be pretty complicated. It requires customisation, trial and error, money, time, patience and knowledge. Although we try extremely hard in using researched and proven ingredients, there is always a small chance that it may not be effective on everyone.

My skin tingles when using the Mask/Products

Sometimes it is normal for the mask to make your skin tingle slightly when you apply them. It feels like tiny needled gently pricking your skin. Sometimes, there’s some heat too. But the tingling only lasts for few seconds. It means the product is penetrating the skin. There’s nothing to worry about. Not everyone experiences this tingling when they use the mask. It usually depends on how sensitive your skin is and how much you are using. If your skin is very sensitive, the tingling sensation may turn into stinging or burning. If that is the case, wash the mask/product off the face. This means unfortunately your skin is far too sensitive and the product is not suitable for you.

Can my baby use your saffron balm?

Yes, you may apply the saffron balm on children FROM 6 months plus. Any younger is down to the parent’s discretion. Like always as they are very young. Please always do a trial test and monitor your child to see if they are sensitive to the ingredients.

Can young children use your SPF?

Yes, you may apply the SPF on children FROM 6 months plus. Any younger is down to the parent’s discretion. Like always as they are very young. Please always do a trial test and monitor your child to see if they are sensitive to the ingredients.

Can men use your products?

Yes they can, men usually need much more stronger ingredients as their skin structure is thicker than women. But they still can use the products and get the benefits.

I have scarring and bumps left by acne, what can you suggest?

Products can only soften the skin bumps and texture but will not be able to smooth it out completely. For example we would suggest exfoliating once a week with saffron mask, daily cleansing with complexion bar and then using black gold.

What is skin purging and how do I know if it’s reacting?

Skin purging is reacting to an active ingredient that is increasing skin cell turnover rate.

Purge usually lasts for two to six weeks, although it can sometimes carry on for as long as two or three months. It can range from a few minor pimples to major breakouts, as well as skin dryness, flaking, peeling and redness.

Long-term, this is amazing for preventing clogged pores and breakouts, leaving your skin smooth and clear. The good news, however, is that the purging effect on skin is temporary. Once these pimples have cleared up, your skin will look healthier and clearer than ever.

Purge happens when a new skincare routine causes pimple formation to speed up, making all those clogged pores lurking under the surface make their way to the surface in one giant breakout. In other words, all your baby pimples grow up faster

Are you having a reaction?

The Difference between a Skin Purge and a Skin Reaction unlike skin purging, which is a temporary skin detox, a skin reaction means your skin is sensitive or allergic to ingredients in the product you're using.

At first glance, it’s going to be difficult to tell the difference between purge acne and breakout acne, because well they’re both acne. However, purge acne will typically occur shortly after beginning a new product and will gradually improve with continued use. Another thing to take note of is that pimples that arise from skin purging will appear in areas where you tend to be oilier, or where you have clogged pores. These new products are simply clearing out dirt and bacteria and paving the way for clear, glowing skin.

A skin reaction is different from normal breakouts because it will come as a direct result of using a certain product or ingredient. Unlike skin purging, which is a temporary skin detox, a skin reaction means your skin is sensitive or allergic to ingredients in the product you’re using.

If your skin looks red and irritated beyond “normal” looking blemishes or pimples, you are likely having a skin reaction and should stop using the product immediately. If your blemishes continue for several weeks after starting product use, it’s also likely a skin reaction and you should stop using the product immediately.

What can I do about my large pores?

Excessive dirt build up on the surface can cause blockages of the follicle, trapping sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells.  Proper skin cleansing clears pores of debris to prevent dirt build up, allowing the sebum oil to reach the skin surface unimpeded; decreasing the chances of a breakout.

Most often, genetics determine who will have large pores. Other causes for large pores can be oily skin, since excess oil sits around the skin's pores, making them appear enlarged. Oily and unclean skin can also cause oils to settle around the pores, making them appear larger as the skin around them thickens.

Toners provide three key benefits. One of these is exfoliation, which can reduce the appearance of visible pores.

Cleanses skin.Restores skin's pH balance.Reduces the appearance of pores.Keeps out impurities like dirt and grime.Hydrates skin.Prevents ingrown hairs.Reduces acne and blackheads.Evens skin

How do I know if my skin dehydrated?

Dehydrated skin can be oily, combination, or normal skin type that is lacking water and feels tight. Dehydrated skin occurs when the protective uppermost layer of the skin, known as the stratum corneum, is lacking in moisture. Some of the signs of dehydrated skin to look out for are itchy skin, dullness, dark circles under the eyes and the increased appearance of wrinkles.

Dehydrated or dry?

While dehydrated skin lacks water, dry skin lacks natural oils (also called sebum). Also, dry skin is a skin type, while dehydration is considered a condition. Dry skin may also be caused by underlying health conditions, such as hypothyroidism. Hormonal conditions such as these don't cause dehydrated skin.

Dehydrated or oily?

One such common mistake people make is automatically thinking they have an oily skin type at the first sign of oil. But your shine could actually be a sign of dehydration, it can also be over-producing oil to compensate for the lack of moisture in the skin, which is why dehydrated skin can be easily mistaken for oily skin. Dehydrated skin is a skin condition, lacking water content, but may still produce oil. In fact, those with acne-prone or oily skin are more likely to suffer from dehydration, as they often choose to use harsh products which strip the skin of moisture.

How to help it…..adding a hyaluronic acid serum before moisturiser. You could also try an overnight hydrating treatment or massaging in an oil pre-bed. It could also be handy to keep a hydrating mist on your desk or in your handbag to combat air-conditioning. In terms of lifestyle, caffeine and is one of the main culprits of dehydrated skin.

 What is skin stripping?

This happens when, through the skincare products you're using and your beauty regime, you strip your skin of its precious natural oils.

If you use the wrong product, or too much of it, you could be stripping away all the natural oils which are protecting your skin and keeping it healthy. Start to give back those natural oils to your skin by using skincare ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid (skin quench) rose hip which can be found in our oils.

How do I do a patch trial test?

Use the inside of your wrist as a starting point. It's thinner than the rest of your body skin. .Apply a small amount of the product to one of these areas.Cover the area with a bandage.Wait 48 Hours to check for any sensitivity and reaction.

What to do if I have a reaction after a trial.

“Irritant contact dermatitis.” It's the most common skin reaction to a beauty product. It can cause burning, stinging, itching, and redness in the area where you apply the product.

Wash the product off your face with cold water or use a cold compress to soothe some of that stinging feeling. And stop the use of the product. See a doctor is extreme. Unfortunately it is impossible to formulate a product which is suitable for 100% of customers as we are all different and have different sensitivity levels. Its best to try it out first to check before implementing it to daily routine.  Also try not to get these mixed up with skin purging.
